From that point on, NMMI conducted a 7-0 run as David Popa put NMMI ahead with a midrange shot as the Broncos got ahead 10-4. Trinidad St. did not shy away as they battled their way back to a 14-13 lead with the help of a three by Damarius Taylor and 12:18 left in the first half. However, that would be the final time Trinidad St. led in the contest.

The Broncos responded with some tough shots as they were able to increase their lead to five points on a few separate occasions to close out the half. After being tied 23-23 with 6:09 left, NMMI closed out the half on a 10-6 run as they headed into halftime with a 33-29 lead.

Both Joel Pinto and David Popa scored eight first-half points, while Pinto snagged six rebounds in the opening 20 minutes.

With a four-point lead, the Broncos did not take their foot off the gas as they increased their advantage to 11 points with the help of a pair of quick threes by Taye Williams and David Popa. Up 43-32 with 17:33 left in the game, the Broncos continued to push the pace as they blasted out to a 22-point lead as Taye Williams scored two of his seven total points.

With 9:42 left in the contest and a 64-42 lead, NMMI was able to close out the game with an even 19-19 run as the Broncos answered every point scored by the Trojans in the final minutes of the contest. With the 83-61 win, the Broncos improved to 4-1 at home.

Head Coach Sean Schooley on the win, "like we talked about on Friday, we had to get a win before break and that's what we did today," Schooley said. "After losing to these guys by a tip-in back in November, we responded by holding them to just 61 points with great defense forcing 18 turnovers and forcing them into tough shots," Schooley said. "Overall, proud of the effort by the guys … looking forward to getting back and jumping into conference play," Schooley said.
