On Thursday evening New Mexico Military Institute dropped a three-set match to Gateway Christian High School on the road. With the setback, the Lady Colts move to 5-3 on the season.

Set 1

Behind a noisy crowd, the home team took an early advantage, which they would maintain throughout the match. The Lady Colts fought back, cutting down the deficit after being down 4-11 early. With the help of a couple NMMI errors, Gateway Christian jumped out to a 20-11 lead before a service error gave them the first set 25-16.

Set 2

After NMMI earned the first point of the set, the Warriors answered back taking the initial 4-3 lead. Not able to find any rhythm, the Lady Colts struggled to stay in the match as Gateway Christian seemed to have an answer to every NMMI point.

After trailing 4-11, the Lady Colts were able to make it a 7-11 game but the Warriors would not let the score get any closer. Down 10-17, the Colts were forced to call a timeout. Going on a run of their own, Gateway Christian took the middle set 25-14.

Set 3

In the third set, Gateway Christian used their momentum from the first two sets to take control with a 10-4 lead. However, the Lady Colts would not go away without a fight. NMMI was able to make it a 7-12 game with the help of a kill from Sara Pires.

After being down 10-19 the Lady Colts extended the match fight back to a 15-22 set. The comeback effort was not enough as NMMI dropped the final set 25-16.

The Lady Colts return to action next Tuesday, Sept. 17 with a trip to Loving, NM to take on the Falcons for a third time this season.
