The Lady Colt varsity volleyball team hit the road on Thursday, headed to Hondo, for their season-opening match against the Lady Eagles.
NMMI took the first two matches, 25-19 and 25-21, but Hondo regrouped to take the next two both by the same 25-15 set score, forcing a final fifth-set showdown.
That final when down to the wire, with NMMI finishing up with a 15-13 win.
"The girls had to battle unti lthe last point to win the match in Hondo tonight," said head NMMI coach Stephanie Schooley. "With this first mathc under our belts, we have a better understanding of what we can do well and what we still need to work on. We are still trying to figure out which rotation is going to work best for us this year, and we are still getting to know each other. It's going to take some time for these girls to gel as a team, but I am super proud of their victory tonight."
The Lady Colts will have just one day to prep and practice before their next schedule match, at home vs. in-town rival Gateway Christian on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 6:00 PM. That match will be played at the Godfrey Athletic Center gym on the NMMI campus.
