On Tuesday evening, New Mexico Military Institute hosted their final regular-season game of the 2025 season at the Godfrey Athletic Center Gym. With the loss, the Lady Colts dip to 1-4 in district play with a 3-11 overall record. Tularosa improves to 11-14 on the year with a 3-1 record in district play.
Q1
After a slow start to open the game, NMMI found themselves down 10-1. However this didn’t stop the Lady Colts from getting back into the game. With 4 minutes left in the quarter, the Lady Colts were able to end the quarter on an 8-4 run. In that run, Ezebelle Gomez and Siany McGhany each knocked down a three to make it a 14-9 ball game at the end of one.
Q2
In the second quarter, NMMI flipped the script and used the eight minutes of the quarter to conduct a 10-9 run. Like the first quarter, the run was spurred by another three pointer made by Carolina Meza and Gomez.
The only two other scorers for the Lady Colts in the quarter were Kaytlyn Lackey and Nevaeh Clark , as they each added a bucket as NMMI trailed 23-19 heading into halftime.
Q3
To open the second half, Clark found some momentum. The NMMI defense allowed just seven points in the quarter. After scoring just two points in the first 16 minutes of action, Clark used the third quarter to score seven points – the same amount put up by the entire Tularosa team in the period. After 24 minutes, NMMI trailed 30-29.
Q4
In the final quarter, Tularosa was able to outscore the Lady Colts 16-7. Of the seven points scored by NMMI, five of them came at the charity stripe as the offense came to a halt to end the game.
The Wildcats scored 10 of the final 16 points at the free throw as they went on to win the second matchup between the two teams 46-36.
Being the second meeting between the two sides, Head Coach Lawrence Hall enjoyed the difference he saw, “The biggest difference from this game and the last meeting was effort,” Hall said. “We played with great effort, tonight we trusted each other … we were good teammates and it showed in our chemistry.”
Nevaeh Clark led NMMI in scoring with 11 points. Kaytlyn Lackey and Ezabelle Gomez each scored eight points to round out the leaders for the Lady Colts.
NMMI returns to action on Friday, Feb. 21 as they take on Dexter High at 5:00 p.m. MST. Friday’s matchup in Dexter, NM will conclude the regular season. The district tournament is set to begin on Monday, Feb. 24.
