Colts suffer 70-41 loss to Tularosa at home

On Tuesday night New Mexico Military Institute dipped to 15-8 overall with a 70-41 loss to Tularosa High School at the Cahoon Armory Gym. With the loss the Colts move to 3-2 in district play. With the win, Tularosa improved to 22-3 overall with a 5-0 mark in district play.

The Colts opened the game with a 6-2 run but that would not last long. Tularosa would respond with a 16-3 run to close out the quarter as they took a 17-9 lead after the first eight minutes of action.

Down by eight points the Colts traded baskets with Tularosa as both teams would answer each other’s score. In the second quarter Tyler Colburn was able to knock down a three pointer with his only points of the period. For Tularosa, Eluciano Gonzales scored none of the 15 total points for the Wildcats. In the second quarter the Colts were outscored 15-12 as they trailed 32-21 heading into halftime.

In the third quarter Tyler Colburn scored eight of the 13 total points for NMMI in the period. However, Tularosa scored 21 points in the period as they enjoyed a 19-point lead after three quarters.

In the final quarter, NMMI was outscored 17-7 as Tularosa took a 30-point lead on multiple occasions. Tyler Colburn was able to score another three pointer in the quarter to score in each quarter of the contest. Six different players scored for Tularosa as they secured the 70-41 win.
