On Saturday afternoon, New Mexico Military Institute hosted Community Christian College for the 2025 season opener at Colt Field. With an 86-12 contest, the Broncos start off the year a perfect 1-0 while Community Christian College opens the year 0-1.
Q1
The NMMI defense opened the season forcing a quick three-and-out, which set up a 39-yard punt return by Geramyah Porter to put the offense in great position. From four yards out, Dylan Donahoe opened his scoring account to put the Broncos ahead 7-0.
On the next drive, Hunter Martinez created a takeaway as he forced a fumble and put the NMMI offense back on the field. On the first play of the drive, Jake South connected with Jaylen Williams from 40 yards to go ahead 14-0 with 13:42 in the opening quarter.
Once again, the Broncos defense created another fumble, this time Zachai Bradford created the fumble and set the offense up with great field possession. In four plays, the Broncos moved the ball 20 yards, capped by Jake South's second touchdown of the day with a 17-yard pass to Geramyah Porter.
The Institute forced another punt, this time Geramyah Porter took it to the house to put the Broncos ahead 28-0 with 2:50 remaining in the opening quarter.
Near the end of the quarter, Jake South fumbled the ball and Community Christian College was able to return for six to make it a 28-6 game.
Q2
Taking over on the CCC 26 yard line, NMMI used four minutes to move the ball 26 yards in five plays to blow open the score with a 3-yard rushing touchdown by Luiz Ortiz putting the home team ahead 35-6.
On the following drive, Jake South found Anthony Ramer in the back of the end zone from 12 yards out, giving NMMI a 38-point lead with 6:05 left in the opening half. The Broncos added a pair of points after forcing a safety. Following the punt, Antonio Muniz recorded a 12-yard rushing touchdown to make it a 51-6 ball game.
Q3
Up big, the Broncos opened the second half like they ended the first half, finding the end zone. In just five plays, the Broncos moved the ball 80 yards, capped off by a five yard run by Ondalis Cardenas to give NMMI a 58-6 lead.
Following a failed fourth down conversion by CCC, Jadyn Wood tallied a 13-yard rush to score his first rushing touchdown of the season. Down 65-6, Community Christian College answered with a 43-yard touchdown pass of their own to make it a 65-12 ball game.
On the kickoff, Jaylen Williams found the end zone for the second time with a 88-yard kick return to blow the lead open 72-12.
Q4
In the final period of the contest, Wyatt Gomez tallied a 2-yard rushing touchdown to give the Broncos a 67-point lead with just over 14 minutes remaining. After forcing a punt, Isaiah Garcia took three handoffs in the drive, with the final one resulting in a 25-yard touchdown run as he made it an 86-12 contest.
Stingy on defense, the Broncos allowed only 53 total yards on 57 total plays, averaging 0.9 yards per play. On offense, the home team recorded 502 total yards on 57 plays, with 381 of those yards coming through the ground game. The Broncos tallied 29 total first downs while allowing only 11 total first downs.
Jake South went 7-for-10, with a trio of touchdowns totaling 138 passing yards. On the ground, Isaiah Garcia led the way with 96 yards on just eight rushes. Jaylen Williams was the only receiver with multiple catches as he ended the game with 73 receiving yards and a touchdown.
