The New Mexico Military Institute Bronco Football [3-4, 1-4] team fell to the Navarro Bulldogs [4-4, 3-3] 47-10 at the Wool Bowl on Saturday afternoon.
After the Bulldogs built a 9-0 lead, the Broncos collected a 24-yard field goal just after the ten-minute mark in the first quarter to put the game within one score.
NMMI's next score wouldn't come until late in the second when sophomore running back Fred Jackson took it to the outside on a seven-yard TD scamper with 4:18 left, making it a 26-10 game in favor of Navarro at the end of the half.
In the second half, however, Navarro scored 21 unanswered points, putting the game out of reach.
The Bronco rushing attack ran for a team total of 167 yards: Jackson led the Institute with 66 rushing yards on 11 attempts, while Canadian sophomore Patrick Charles ran for 48 yards on 13 carries.
Zareq Brown got his first start of the season for NMMI and went 10-28 passing for 90 yards. His top target was Diego Miranda: four receptions for 48 yards, followed by Chaney Hardt who hauled in two receptions for 22 yards.
Jaren Banks led the defense with 12 total tackles including a sack and 3.5 tackles-for-losses totaling nine yards. The defense had seven tackles for losses on the night for 16 total yards behind the line of scrimmage.
The next game for the Broncos will be on the road in Miami, OK on October 19th vs. Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College at 3:00 PM; their next home game will vs. Blinn College on Oct. 26th at 4:00 PM. This will be the last regular-season game for the Broncos and will be the official homecoming celebration for NMMI cadets, alumni, parents and fans.
