On Thursday afternoon New Mexico Military Institute dipped to 12-22 in conference play with a 24-28 overall record with an 8-2 loss in game one and an 11-1 setback in game two of the series. Howard College improves to 19-15 in conference play with a 25-25 overall mark.
GAME 1
After a scoreless first inning to open the series, Howard opened the second inning with a leadoff single. After an out, a walk and a single the Hawks loaded the bases. In the next at bat, Howard scored a pair of runs with a 2-RBI single by Isaiah Shivers. The Hawks scored their third run with the help of a passed ball to go ahead 3-0.
In the top of the third, Howard scored another pair of runs with a 2-run shot by Christian Guitierrez to take a 5-0 advantage. In the bottom of the third, Joek Rivera Colon tallied his 8th homer of the year to score a pair of runs for the Broncos.
In the top of the 7th inning Howard scored a pair of runs with the help of a solo homer by Jimmy Dionne to take the first game, 8-2.
GAME 2
In the second game of the afternoon, Howard got started early on. They used the first inning to score five runs and set the tone. In the bottom of the first inning, Yahir Fonseca Ortiz belted his 8th homer fo the year to score the lone run for NMMI.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Howard scored another pair of runs to take a 7-1 lead. Again in the top of the fifth, the Hawks took a 9-1 lead with two more runs. The Hawks concluded their damage with a two-RBI double in the top of the seventh as they held an 11-1 advantage.
The Broncos conclude the regular season tomorrow afternoon as they host Howard College for a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. MST.
