On Monday night New Mexico Military Institute improved to 10-6 on the season with a 4-1 win over neighboring Gateway Christian at the NMMI Ballpark. With the loss, the Warriors dip to 6-4 on the year.

In the first three innings, both teams displayed excellent defense as neither team was able to score a run despite getting runners on base. In the top of the fourth inning, Gateway Christian started it off with a leadoff triple. After an out and a walk, an RBI single by Rayford Fulkerson gave the visiting team the initial 1-0 lead.

Responding promptly, NMMI loaded the bases in the bottom half of the fourth inning with a pair of walks and a single by Richard West. With the bases loaded, Konstatino Scopelitis was hit by a pitch to help knot the game at 1-1. An out later, Caden Carter was walked, giving the Colts a 2-1 advantage.

Again in the fifth inning, the Colts scored another pair of runs. With two runners on base, Richard West grounded out to the second baseman but it was enough to help Nicolas Barcelo Teran reached home after getting on base with a hit by pitch to leadoff the frame. Two pitches later, Tegin Maloney was able to score a run with the help of a passed ball to make it a 4-1 ballgame.

NMMI returns to action on Tuesday, April 15 as they host Ruidoso at the NMMI Ballpark, with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. MDT.
