Colts blank Cobre High School 28-0

On Friday night New Mexico Military completed their second shutout win of the season with a 28-0 win over Cobre High School at Colt Field. With the win the Colts improve to 3-1 in district play with a 4-3 overall record. With the loss, Cobre falls to 0-3 in district play with a 1-6 overall record.

Q1

NMMI opened the game with a 65-yard kickoff return by Konstantino Scopelitis to set the Colts up with excellent field position. It took just four plays before Aquaylis Jordan found the end zone with a 4-yard rushing touchdown to put the Colts up 7-0 with 9:51 remaining in the opening quarter.

On defense the Colts forced a quick punt to get the offense back on the field. On their own 34-yardline, the Colts used a 33-yard rush by Konstantino Scopelitis to set up a three yard touchdown run by Konstantino Scopelitis to put the home team ahead 14-0.

Q2

Up 14-0, the Colts came up with a huge sack on fourth down to put the NMMI offense back on the field in Cobre territory. With just two plays, Aquaylis Jordan took off for a 30-yard rushing touchdown to give NMMI a 21-0 lead with 6:28 remaining in the half.

Late in the half NMMI attempted a long field goal by Henrique Barreto but he attempt failed as NMMI held a 21-0 advantage at the half.  

Q3

Cobre started the third quarter on offense but their drive stalled out after a failed fourth down conversion after three consecutive incompletions by the Cobre quarterback. The next play, Aquaylis Jordan blasted away for a 51-yard rushing touchdown to give NMMI a 28-0 lead.  

Q4

In the final quarter, Cobre saw their two drives end on fourth down conversions as the NMMI defense held strong for a full 48 minutes. Not looking to score, the Colts used up the majority of the clock in the final period as they held on to a 28-point advantage. NMMI made it three consecutive wins as they ended the game in victory formation and secured a 28-0 win.

Aquaylis Jordan led the way on the ground for the Colts with 137 yards on 11 attempts to go along with a trio of rushing touchdowns. Konstantino Scopelitis also found the endzone with two carries for 36 yards.

Through the air, Luke Tomasits went 4-for-5 for 59 yards. Mihail Parada tallied two catches for a total of 39 yards.

Alex Graniewicz recorded 11 total tackles with 1.5 sacks for a total of 14 yards. The Colt defense tallied five total sacks for a loss of 51 yards.
