The Colt Baseball team (4-0) continued their winning ways against Capitan (0-1) as they downed the Tigers 9-2 on Tuesday evening at the NMMI Ballpark.

“That was Captian’s first game of the year and they will be a good little ball club, said head coach Charlie Ward.

Despite Capitan taking an early lead thanks to a passed ball, NMMI bounced back and took the lead 3-1 heading into the top of the second.

“Gavin [Maloney] struggled a little on the mound and our catcher has to do a better job of keeping runners on third base,” said Ward. “Francisco Rivera came in and had a much better outing than he did last Tuesday.”

The Colts took a commanding thanks to a five-run tally in the bottom of the second inning. The big inning was capped by a two-RBI triple by Maloney after Jake Leible led off and reached base via error.

Heading into the top of the seventh inning, Capitan gained some momentum and added their final run.

“We were lacking focus in the last inning,” said Ward. “We had multiple chances to end the game with a double play, but we couldn’t make the plays.”

Maloney led the Institute with three hits and five RBI’s. Gunner Schwab had two hits and Rivera added one more to give the Colt’s six hits on the game.

Next up for NMMI is the Hal Bogle Classic in Dexter, where they will face Loving at 10:00 AM.
