As a player, Kitts began his college education and collegiate football career at Anne Arundel Community College in   Arnold, Maryland where he was selected a first team all-conference Safety following his freshmen season.

He then continued on to play at Fairmont State University, where he was a three year starter in the secondary (1986-1989).  His career statistics include 7 interceptions, 101 tackles and a team-leading 15 passes broken up.

As a coach, Kitts spent the 2014 season coaching the Miramar Falcons’ (US Marine Corps) secondary in San Diego, California.

In 2015, as the Secondary Coach at Feather River College (CA) , Kitts mentored a pass defense that finished second in the conference and produced two first team all-conference Safeties in Houston Barnes and Charles Hicks Jr. Three of his sophomore defensive backs accepted scholarship offers following the season.  Charles Hicks Jr signed with North Carolina Central University (FCS), while Aaron Brown and Dimitri Butts signed with Lincoln University (DII) and Black Hills State University (DII) respectively.

In 2016, as a graduate assistant at Tarleton State University, Kitts coached the outside linebackers. He worked with  Basil Jackson and E.J Speed, who both earned All-Lone Star Conference honors. Jackson returned two interceptions for touchdowns, leading the team in that category.

In 2017, Kitts tutored a young group of cornerbacks at Grossmont College that contributed to a 36.4 yard interception return average, the best among all California Junior College programs. Freshman Lane Self led the unit with 44 tackles, 8 passes broken-up, 2 interceptions returned for 82 yards and 1 touchdown.

Between his football playing and his football coaching careers, Kitts served a total of 28 years in the U.S. Army which included four combat zone tours. His military awards include two Bronze Star Medals for service in Iraq and in           Afghanistan.  He retired from the Army at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Kitts holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Fairmont State University and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Troy University.

Coach Kitts and his wife Hajir have three children Justin, Patrick and Giselle.
