The New Mexico Military Institute Colt baseball team defeated the Tularosa Wildcats 19-0 in the first round of the Hal Bogle Tournament in Dexter, NM.

NMMI got it started in the top of the first as Jasper Best hit a rocket to third and Alejandro Barcenas scored on the ensuing throwing error by the Tularosa third baseman to take a 1-0 lead at the end of the top of the first.

The Colts grabbed another run in the second as Martin Ayon hit a line drive down the left field line for a double. He then scored on a bloop base hit by Barcenas to give the Colts a 2-0 lead.

In the fourth inning the Colts scored 11 runs, accumulated from five walks and eight hits. That made NMMI’s advantage 18-0 after four complete innings.

NMMI grabbed one last run in the fifth before closing out the game for a 19-0 victory.

“We did what we had to do,” said head Colt baseball coach Charlie Ward. “I told them when scores are like this, play with sportsmanship and go 90 feet per play. We have won this tournament the last two years and getting back to the championship game is a mini goal for us. We have a chance to continue with that tomorrow.”

Bleizeffer went 3-4 with a run scored and three RBIs. Ayon also collected three hits with two walks while driving in a run.

Bleizeffer pitched three innings on the mound collecting eight strikeouts and giving up two hits. Oscar Gomez pitched the last two innings striking out five Wildcats and allowing one base hit.

NMMI will move to the semi-finals at 4 pm on Friday where they will play the winner of today's game between Hot Springs and Mesilla Valley Christian.
